If elected, I will be prepared to respond to legal maneuvers on the convention floor.
In Ohio, I observed 2 polling locations during the presidential primary near Ohio State University and addressed serious provisional ballot issues. Students were being turned away or forced to vote by provisional ballot due to an issue regarding proof of residency. Additionally, the polling locations ran out of provisional ballots.
Based on my knowledge of the relevant election laws and the respectful relationships that I had developed with the poll workers (who had a lot of discretion in how to administer the election process) I was able to negotiate an arrangement to provide students the opportunity to vote with a regular ballot. |
| Why I support Obama He is a leader who empowers and inspires ordinary citizens to do extraordinary things.
He challenges us to strive for excellence and a better, brighter future for America and future generations. | Who I am: I was raised in southern Mississippi and Ohio. I was adopted at the age of five by my aunt and uncle. My father is a Lutheran minister. Our family had modest means but my parents taught me the most valuable thing we have to offer in the world is care and kindness to others.
What I've done: I am a nurse and an attorney. While working night shift at a hospital I went to law school in the evening. We moved to Seattle in 1997. I worked for a health care insurance company leading the managed care clinical review department. This gave me valuable insight on the state of health care in America. As a result, I am a committed advocate for health care reform.
I have a wonderfully supportive husband. He works in the public sector as a state prosecutor. We are blessed to have two healthy, delightful daughters (4 & 6). Because of our values we have sacrificed so that I can stay home with them during their early years.
Obama Volunteer: It has been a privilege to have the opportunity to work for Obama's national campaign.
Other Volunteering activities: Worked on Darcy Burner's campaign for US Representative for the 8th CD in '06- persuasion phone banking, canvassing. This is not my district but my congressman's seat is very secure. I was motivated to win a democratic congress.
Humanitarian mission to Managua, Nicaragua - set up eye clinics and assisted cataract surgeries.
Serve on the Rainier Corridor Traffic Safety Task Force - work with law enforcement, traffic engineers, educators and community leaders to decrease the number of fatal and serious traffic injuries on one of the most dangerous streets in the state.
Rainier Othello Safety Association - committed to improving safety and livability in our community.
Serve on my children's school committees, fund-raising and community programs. |
| As a nurse, attorney and mother of two young daughters I am concerned about the future of America and the wellbeing of future generations. Healthcare: I’ve worked in the health care industry for over a decade. Quality health care for all must be a fundamental right in a country as wealthy as the USA. Obama’s plan makes strides towards that end. Erosion of civil rights, liberties, the politicization of the Supreme Court and the expansion of Executive powers in the last 8 years are the greatest threat to American citizens and the fundamental principles and foundation of the USA. I trust Obama, a constitutional scholar, to make sound decisions when balancing National Security and civil liberties and Supreme Court nominations. |
