| About me: I was born in Seattle, and have lived in Western Washington almost all of my life. My husband Gary and I live in Everett and have five fantastic kids, ages 19, 16, 6, 5 and 4. (The youngest three are in the picture with me!) I currently work at the Hearing, Speech and Deafness Center (HSDC) in Seattle as the Outreach Coordinator for the Speech, Language and Learning Department. HSDC assists clients across the lifespan who are deaf and/or hard of hearing, or who have speech delays or disorders, and help to foster effective communication by providng early childhood education, evaluation, therapy and advocacy. The best parts of my job are getting to assist with children's therapy, going to community outreach events, and learning American Sign Language. I have a very full life, and feel blessed to have such a great family and a fulfilling and vibrant career. I am a die-hard Obama supporter, and would be incredibly honored to have your vote to represent Washington at the Democratic National Convention this August. | |
WHY I'M A DELEGATE FOR OBAMA:
These little guys are why I have decided to run as a candidate for National Delegate. I worry about the state of the world we live in today. We are not taking care of our planet. Poverty and famine are constant threats worldwide. And here in America, our current president and his administration have desecrated our Constitution, brought us into an unnecessary war, and continue to lie to their constituents on a daily basis because they think they can get away with it. Like many of you, this is my first time being involved in the political process outside of the voting booth. However, that does not mean that I have not been passionate about causes that are near and dear to my heart. Though I have not held a political position, I have been a working mom and have spent my life carefully choosing jobs that can help me make a positive difference in the lives of others. I have worked in healthcare, providing direct care to seniors and the disabled and providing clinical support. I have worked in special education, providing classroom support for students with autism spectrum disorders. I have been a foster parent for infants who were prenatally drug-exposed, and have adopted three of those children. Parenthood is an awesome responsibility--however, I feel an extra sense of responsibility toward these three. My husband and I have been entrusted by the state to make the best choices and provide a good life for these little ones, and a big part of that involves pointing out and fighting injustice where I see it. Like you, I am fed up. I want the best for my children, and my children's children. And Barack Obama is the man who shares my vision of what this country can be, when we all decide to work together to make it happen. What would my children's future be without hope? And why on earth would I vote for someone who derides hope as if it's a character flaw? I have been an unwavering supporter of Barack Obama since before he even announced his candidacy. In previous years, a bumper sticker and my vote might have been enough. But thanks to eight years of corruption from the Bush Administration, it is time to take our country back. Complacency is no longer an option. And I want my children to have the proud memory of their mommy fighting for what is right, and doing her part to make the world a better place for them. It is an honor and a privilege to be working side-by-side with so many incredibly dedicated delegates. This has been such a rewarding experience, and I appreciate your taking the time to read this. I look forward to working with you all in Spokane, and hope you will consider voting for me to represent you in Denver. Thanks so much.
