Debbie Pattin - Barack Obama Delegates

Hi-

I'm Debby Pattin, Thurston County Coordinator for Barack Obama
and I'm grateful to have been elected as national delegatefrom the 3rd. CD.

For almost 18 months I have been a grassroots coordinator/organizer and full time
volunteer for Barack Obama. I am also a former high school teacher, the mother of two young Democrats (ages22 and 19), the wife of a Vietnam veteran, and a cancer survivor, thanks to the excellent health care provided by my husband's Longshore Union (ILWU).

I have been the principal organizer of Thurston County for Obama, and work as part of the grassroots team throughout this state. I've held Meet Ups and House Parties, canvassed, set up info. tables and hosted hospitality suites, including the Washington State Democrats Central Committee meetings for the past year. I've also sponsored Obama auction baskets for several county parties and the Maggie Awards.

I have led phone banks, conducted precinct and legislative district caucus trainings and during the winter commuted to Seattle from Olympia to staff the Seattle grassroots office. When it closed, I rented and opened an Obama grassroots office within for a Thurston County Headquarters. This is currently the only Obama office that remains open in the state.

I've also served as a liaison between WA State Democrats and Obama campaign grassroots organizers, particularly regarding Rules and Credentials.

I have spoken about Barack Obama and about Grassroots Organizing at many events, including fund raisers and meetings of Young Democrats and, at the request of radio personality Randi Rhodes, I gave a presentation on grassroots organizing to the guests of the Air American Cruise in February 2008.

How did I get so fired up about Obama?

As a member of the National Rules Committee representing WA State, I was fortunate enough to hear
firsthand Obama's electrifying keynote speech in Boston at the DNC. (I had run as a national delegate in 2004 but was not elected. The national Veterans for Kerry campaign nominated me for the Rules Committee based on my year long volunteer work as the WA State Adjutant for Vets for Kerry.)

When I heard Obama speak, I knew that he was the hope for my kid's generation, and for all of America.
Because I am a believer in effecting change from the grassroots level upward, since 2004 I have served as a PCO, then 1st Vice Chair of Thurston Co. Democrats, and later served as Vice Chair of the 22nd LD. Now I serve as the Thurston County Democrats State Committeewoman, serve on the WA State Dems Rules Committee, and as Treasurer of the WA Democrats Veterans & Military Families caucus. My husband and I are also founding members of the national and Washington State chapters of Veterans and Military Families for Progress.

I am Fired Up and Ready to Go to Denver and I thank all who supported me, and voted for me, onMay 17, (the 7th yr. anniversary of my cancer diagnosis), to represent Washington's 3rd Congressional District at the Democratic National Convention. I will not let Barack Obama down and
I will not let you down.
We can get Obama elected. Yes. We. Can!

Voter Registration May 10th.

Debby and part of Team Obama get set to hit the neighborhoods to canvas for Voter Registration. Couldn't get everyone in the shot. We had a table at the Farmer's market, registered people, moved Obama Gear, and talked to maybe a 1000 supporters. At the same time other volunteers were setting up the JJ Dinner and sorting food from from the Postal Drive for the Food Bank. We gets thing done in the 3rd.

The American Dream, indeed the entire Obama for President Campaign, is based on meritocracy. Those who work hard and successfully accomplish useful things are rewarded. In WA Obama politics that is Debbie Pattin.

For the average citizen, their political experience is watching a little news, reading a few opinion pieces, watching inescapable commercials, then casting their ballot. They never see or care about the endless hours of work and enormous knowledge it takes to make an election happen, let alone get a particular candidate elected.

This caucus is just one step in a process that has continued for two years. It is the culmination of innumerable small events that will send a few fortunate people to carry the Barack Obama 3rd CD vote to the floor of the Democratic Convention. For two years Debbie Pattin has energetically shepherded every step.

I say with complete conviction, from personal knowledge, that if you are a Congressional Delegate and/or are running for a national seat anywhere between Vancouver and Seattle, Debbie Pattin has been instrumental in the process that got you here.

Debbie Pattin has driven thousands of miles, spent hundreds of phone hours, sent thousands of e-mails, attended dozens of meetings, and raised thousands of dollars that helped Barack win WA. She found the money and gathered volunteers to staff the Olympia Obama Office, the only one currently open in the in the entire state, and she's done it without one dime of support from the National Campaign.

When OFA, the PI, the Olympian, even the Wall Street Journal, want local Obama news they call Debbie. The center of population in CD 3 favors the area south of Thurston County. However Debbie works to elect Barack Obama and has tirelessly represented the entire area. She has been there for Barack and for you at every step of the way. Please vote for her because she has earned the opportunity to carry your vote to Denver.
