  • Elida Monroe - OBAMA SUPPORTER, HISPANIC, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FOR THE NORTHWEST. I was born in Toppenish, Washington. This is a Hispanic community. I was raised in rural communities throughout my life, such as Klickitat and Skamania County. I have been a resident of Clark County for the last 32 years. I graduated from Washougal High School.
  • *EDUCATION: -Portland State University: Bachelor of Science-Marketing and Business.

  • Married to a veteran and we have a 12 year old son.

I have have been committed to Barack Obama since 2004 when I heard his speech at the Democratic convention. I have read his books: "The Audicity of Hope" and "Hope and Dreams". This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Americans to elect a person of uniqueness. He is truly a person who can unite all American individuals. Since I work in the federal government sector, he is the kind of person that is so very much needed in all of government. I was raised in a entrepreneur family. My family has been in the restaurant business for 35 years and I have been fortunate. I have always been an advocate for the development of business and growth for the economy. Therefore; my career has been in the implementation for awarding contracts to Contractors for the development of our economy and businesses.

I had the opportunity of working with a previous mayor for the City of Vancouver, WA before he was elected to that office. One of the economic projects which has benefited all people in Clark county is the Tri-met transit center on 164th Avenue. I sat on the advisory board for its development.

I have been instrumental in getting Barack Obama elected as the Democratic nominee by performing and being involved in the following commitments to the campaign.

-TRAINING ACTIVITIES: Attend OBAMA relevant training before caucuses and other sessions
-PRECINCT CAPTAIN: February 9, 2008 for precinct 940 -TELECONFERENCES/-TELEPHONE CALLS: Primary states to encourage voters to vote for OBAMA. -VOLUNTEER: VIP seating section at the Memorial Coliseum event for OBAMA campaign. -MONEY: Donated funds to OBAMA campaign -DESK VOLUNTEER: County/Legislative Convention
-PARTICIPANT OF OREGON’S WOMEN’S GROUP: Assist Oregon State via calling voters to encouraging them to vote OBAMA. POST CARD CAMPAIGN BLITZ: Process personal post-cards and send them to the remaining primary states to encourage voters to vote for OBAMA.
Attended the Waterfront rally at Portland, Oregon.
Precinct Captain Official: Unopposed PCO for 15 Legislative District.

I plan to implement the following strategies to ensure Barack Obama is elected as President of the United States in November, 2008:

-I will continue to rally community neighbors in support of Barack Obvama as a PCO.
-Register new voters and attend fundraisers for other Democrats in the State of Washington.
-I plan to advocate for economic development through serving as Vice-Chair on the Board of Directors for the Business Diversity Institute, Minority Business Development Committee. Website: www.dbiweb.org
Make grants and educational training available for disadvantaged Contractors/firms.
-I plan to make energy incentives awareness to customers as I work at a government energy agency.

The unique contributions I have made as a delegate for Barack Obama and in pursuant of excellence is as follows:

-I'd like to say that I feel honored to represent Barack Obama as National Delegate. This is a role in which I will have a responsibility to the public for making America a better place for all individuals for achieving economic fairness and justice.
-I have been very active in this campaign using the telephone bank to reach out to voters in the other states such as Texas, California, South Carolina, Puerto Rico, and Ohio. For the States of Texas, California and Puerto Rico I spoke Spanish to the voters as they were unable to speak English.
-I had the opportunity of working as a volunteer at the OBAMA rallies at Portland, Oregon. For the March event I worked the VIP section and Kristin Gwinn was my Captain. She was great to work with and I met a lot of interesting people.
-I became a member of the Oregon's Women's group and we started up a post-card campaign blitz to other primary states. This was a great project and I recommend it for the general election.
- I work at an Energy government agency and I am proactive in making sure the Contractors I work with receive their energy incentives to pass on to their customers.
-I will make every effort and implement strategies for making our country a better place to live for all Americans.

I plan to use the experience I learn in Denver leading to the general election the following ways:

-I plan on continuing to be proactive as an economic development advocate as I am the Vice-Chair for the BDI-MBOC.
-I plan to team up with other Hispanic groups to get the vote out in the General election and meet with other delegates throughout the state to campaign for Barack Obama and make sure he gets elected in 2008 and 2012.
-My support for Barack Obama will go beyond the convention in Denver, the election, as I perform my work at an energy federal agency; Bonneville Power Administration, and have the experience at an environmental federal agency; Fish and Wildlife Service. My support for the environment and energy platforms are part of policy for uniting all individuals for a better America.

*OTHER EXPERIENCE: -Contracting Officer/Specialist: Federal government sector career for 16 years. Environmental agency (US Fish and Wildlife Service) and Energy agency (DOE- Bonneville Power Administration).
-Small Business Development Specialist: I facilitated and developed economic contracting opportunities throughout the Northwest for Contractors through developmental training. US Fish and Wildlife Service.
-Vice-Chair Board of Directors for the Business Diversity Institute, Minority Business Opportunity Committee: Lead Team member, broaden and create contracting and educational development opportunities for Northwest Contractors. www.bdiweb.org. This organization provides economic development to the community.
-Board of Directors for N.W. Small Business Counsel: 2002 - 2004
We educated government contract buyers and prime contractors on how to create business opportunities to potential Contractors for economic fairness.
-Certified Insurance Agent: Life/Disability Insurance - Sold life/disability insurance to low income-households in Clark County.

*POLITICAL VALUES I SUPPORT: I am seeking to be a Democratic National Convention Delegate. As you can see, I believe I have the skills and ability that will assist in the development of the Democratic party’s goals and objectives for the November election. I am able to support and represent OBAMA in Denver into the General Election and beyond as I am in community volunteer in positions to support his platforms on economic development, environment, and energy. I am dedicated to the following values and will work on these areas of the campaign and I am eager to develop and implement his strategies.
-ECONOMY: Enhance the infrastructure projects in communities for improved economic fairness to all Americans.
-WAR: End the war in Iraq and use the money for job creation and training in our own country.
-ENVIRONMENT: Monitor and protect our environment for the generations to come.
-ENERGY: Provide energy savings and incentives to all Americans and create technical jobs in the energy sector for promotion of renewable energy sources, such as biofuel, hydrogen, wind, and tidal wave action.
-IMMIGRATION: Fix the bureaucracy, improve the process and keep families together.
