| Short Biography:
I'm a disability advocate and have been for many years. I co-taught a disability awareness class for 6 years - I still do when asked - and before that talked to classes where needed. I very much enjoy talking to kids about disability and helping them learn tolerance. Three years ago I was partnered with a service dog, and since Crystal has been coming with my everywhere and helping me teach kids.
One of my favorite experiences with teaching came in the first year of the disability awareness program. In those first couple years, the program was only done when a child was getting teased or doing the teasing. In this particular class, one of the kids wasn't great at social skills, was brighter than most of his classmates, and tended to tease others because of this. After the class - which consists of activities and a guest speaker - he came up to me, told me how much he enjoyed the class, and shook my hand. I heard a few weeks later that he was doing much better.
