| Obama Grassroots Organizer, Jefferson County, Washington email: jc4obama@yahoo.com | ||
| Dear Friends & Neighbors in Jefferson County and the Olympic Peninsula; fellow delegates to the County, Congressional District, and State conventions; and National Delegates from Washington State, I am absolutely humbled and honored to be joining the Washington Delegation to the National Convention in Denver this August, as a pledged delegate for our next President, Senator Barack Obama! Though I am a pledged delegate for Senator Obama, I am also absolutely pledged to represent the supporters of all candidates from Jefferson County and the Olympic Peninsula. This position is an honor, and I take this responsibility very seriously. Please feel free to email me your thoughts and concerns, and I will bring them with me to Denver! In the meantime, here are my thoughts on why I support my candidate: As an anthropologist, a community development worker, and as an American, our Democratic nominee to be the 44th President of the United States inspires me every single day. Living in El Salvador for four years, my husband Chris and I saw firsthand the effects of war and unfair trade policies on people beyond our shores. We moved back to the U.S. soon after the 2004 election, wanting desperately to be part of a movement to restore our relationships with other countries and to help repair the damage done over the past eight years. This election is about more than one person. It is about the over 4.5 million displaced Iraqi citizens, yearning for peace, stability, and the opportunity to finally return home. It is about millions of families around the world struggling to feed their children as world food prices skyrocket out of their reach. It is about parents in Latin America making the heart-wrenching decision to leave their little ones behind in order to find work in el norte to survive. It is about the thousands of sons and daughters who were sent to wage a war that should have never been fought, and who are being deployed over and over again with no solution in sight. This election is not about one candidate, it about all of us, as Democrats, standing up together to do what we do best - fight for the rights of "the least of these". We need a President who not only represents who we are, but who we have the potential to be. Barack Obama represents that potential, raising the bar for all of us, asking us to put aside our differences and work together toward solutions to our problems. Our party needs time, and all of us listening to each other, to heal the hurts on both sides and come together to elect a president who will stand up for the poor, the voiceless, and the disenfranchised. Thank you so much for the opportunity to represent OUR voices in Denver!! This is about ALL of us, and I couldn't be more proud to stand on the convention floor for Jefferson County, the Olympic Peninsula, and the world's poor and displaced, as we all finally elect a president who has all of our futures in mind. Thank you so much, this is a true honor. Muchisimas gracias a todos ustedes, es un honor de verdad. Yours, Lori Macklin National Delegate Jefferson County Endorsed by: Dean Ando, National Delegate, 6th CD Majid Al-Bahadli, National Delegate, 7th CD Bill Miller, Chair, 24th LD Teri Nomura, Chair, Jefferson County Democrats John Austin, Jefferson County Commissioner, Democrat David Sullivan, Jefferson County Commissioner, Democrat Ruth Gordon, County Clerk, Jefferson County | |
This campaign has transformed a whole generation of young people out of their apathy and into active involvement and service in their communities. I've had the opportunity to meet staffers who will join the peace corps, the foreign service, and other service-oriented roles as soon as the campaign is over - and Barack Obama is inaugurated as our next President! Even more than that, I'm proud to be an Obama delegate because he has inspired people of all ages and from all walks of life to work together, like we never have before, to restore our standing in the world and help to repair the damage of this administration. It's going to take all of us, and I'm SO proud and honored to be part of the team! |
