WHY WE ARE DELEGATES FOR OBAMA:
As members of the Obama National Finance Committee, we have been directly involved in conceiving, and implementing, fundraisers across the United States; in Washington, Minnesota, Illinois, and California, and soon, New Mexico and beyond. We have successfully been Co Hosts and directly involved in managing fundraisers which have raised over $2 million for Obama For America. As members of a group of National Finance members working in the field, we have volunteered in Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Washington, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, North Carolina, and soon Oregon and Kentucky.We have organized, made thousands of phone calls, knocked on a couple thousand or more doors. But, this journey is not about us. It is about you and so many Americans who stand, with us all, for Hope and Change. It is about the older man in Des Moines, a staunch Edwards supporter, who drew us into his home in -30F weather, offering us hot tea, thanking us for doing the hard work of democracy. It is about the young man in suburban Des Moines who had never voted, signing up 10 of his workmates to vote with him for Obama. It is about our old, lifelong friend from Swtizerland,now in Chicago, long ago naturalized, telling us that this was the first candidate in his adult lifetime who he thought could bring true change to our world. It is about the older man in Columbus, Ohio, hopelessly confused, who wanted desperately to vote for Obama but could not, becasuse of a long past youthful mistake. It is about the woman we saw in Munster, Indiana, Friday May 2, who wondered why her father should have to work in a back breaking job in a steel plant at age 68 just to maintain health insurance. It is about the woman we saw last week in Durham, NC, wondering if her grandson would come home safely from Iraq. It is about our family, friends and neighbors, wondering how and why we have disappeared into this campaign. We tell them, and you, if not us, who? Of all times, if not now, when? It is about the many young people we have met, many now our dear friends, who give our hearts great Hope for our country, as they take up the yoke of democracy and labor every day for our nation. They deserve our gratitude; they labor not for pay, but because it is right. It is about Americans everywhere, good hearted all, needing leadership to challenge us, heal our nation, and lift us up. We ask you to give us your hands, your hearts, your voice, and your vote (for us) as National Delegates for Obama, so that We Can Stand, in Denver, For Hope and Change.
