| Who I Am: | ||
| I grew up in a PA county that went for Hillary 72% to 28%, and moved to a WA county that boasted 72% to 27% for Obama. I'm so proud of my adoptive state! I think this guy, from a Clinton rally in my former hometown, explains exactly why I left: | |
Advocacy. As an ESL teacher in Seattle's refugee and immigrant community, I understand the hopes and concerns of America's newest citizens. I want to make their voices heard by electing a president who represents America's diverse communities and families. Service. My 2006-2007 Americorps service gave me a new knowledge of Seattle and an ongoing relationship with the people who live here. I believe in Obama's plan to expand public service opportunities for people of all ages--students, professionals and retirees. Unlike Hillary Clinton, Obama knows that the reward of public service is not just money for college. Public service fosters a lifelong desire to understand and help our neighbors in the local and global community. Empowerment. Why vote for a figurehead? Obama's vision puts change into the hands of every citizen. This election could mend years of apathy by empowering people to do for themselves. Peace. I marched in protest to the Gulf War almost 18 years ago and again in 2003. I continue to oppose the military action our country has taken in Iraq. I'm against the war, not the troops. My father is a distinguished veteran of World War II, and I grew up with great respect for those men and women who choose to serve our country in the military. This war does them a disservice by misusing their dedication and commitment to our nation. |
