WHY I'M A DELEGATE FOR OBAMA:
TOP 5 Reasons I Like Obama
  1. He will end the war in Iraq on day 1.
  2. He is honest..
  3. He has the interests of everyone at heart..
  4. He will bring this country together. No more red and blue states.
  5. He knows more about Islam and other cultures than all the other presidential candidates combined.
One really hot summer day in 1953, at the age of 12, I was collapsed on the couch watching the Republican Convention nominate Dwight D. Eisenhower as their presidential candidate and totally fascinated with the process. It was my first political experience, but probably the last time I would have anything to do with the Republican Party. I was on the first demonstration against the Vietnam War (in New York City) and subsequent ones at the Pentagon, at the Lincoln Memorial for Martin Luther King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech, and at every pro-choice demonstration I could find.

Walk for Change, June 2007When I was five, I remember walking with my mom from the polling place, and she said “Damn, I forgot to vote for someone from the American Labor Party. You have to give each of those crooks a chance to steal.” Now that definitely formed my outlook on politicians, and I never trusted a single one until now. What impressed me the most about Barack Obama is that he does not take any PAC or corporate money. He wants to stop the revolving door in Washington, where aides come in one door, and go out as lobbyists from the other. Just ending that corrupt practice will improve Washington politics.

When I read that Barack Obama organized the unemployed in Chicago, I thought “Wow, here’s a guy who knows the experiences of the little person, not those of the rich and famous. I was hooked when I found out he grew up in Indonesia—the largest Muslim country in the world, and was familiar with Islam—what other presidential candidate can say that at a time when that understanding is crucial to avoiding a world war? For the first time in my life, I actually donated to a political candidate, and even though I spent most of my early adulthood organizing against racism and war, I never campaigned for any preWorking Derby Days-Redmond, 2007sidential candidate. To my mind, they were all a bunch of political hacks, and the word “I” figured into their speeches more often than “we”—as in what can we do together.

Sen. Barack Obama is different. He is a different kind of candidate. I’ve been on the most progressive side of every political issue, but there has never been a candidate that has spoken to me like Barack Obama has. Not because he is so progressive, though he is on many issues, but because he is open to solving problems so the little people benefit. I have supported Sen. Obama for president since October 2006 ever since he came to speak at Bellevue Community College for Darcy Burner and other candidates. In March 2007, I had a house party for Barack Obama for my neighbors. In July 2007, I organized a booth for Redmond Derby Days that had over a dozen volunteers participating from all over the area, and raised over $300 altogether. I became a PCO for my district during the summer, and continued my work. By the winter, I was the liaison for the grassroots effort for Obama to the 45th LD, and I am so proud that our LD voted overwhelmingly for Obama at the Feb. 9th caucus. I also traveled to Colorado for a week before Super Tuesday to campaign with my daughter—another decisive win for Sen. Obama.

As you can see, I am an experienced campaigner, and have devoted as much time and energy as I have to making sure that Barack Obama becomes the Democratic Party’s nominee for president of the United States. Now I am asking you to elect me as a national delegate to Denver Convention.
