I was born in New York City in 1949. I graduated from Hunter College in 1974 with a A.B. degree in the History of Religion and Sociology. I left New York in 1977 and lived in Oregon until 1986. During that time, I was the Vice Chair of the Democratic Central Committee in Malheur County. I wrote a monthly column for the Oregon Democrat and served on the statewide Publications Committee. I also served on the Board of Directors of the Alcohol Recovery Center and the Malheur County Drug and Alcohol Board, on the Elections Committee of the American Society of University Women and on the Interagency Child Abuse Team. I worked as a grant writer and as a reporter for The Oregonian, The Malheur Enterprise and several industry and local newspapers and magazines. In 1986 I accepted a position as Presentence Investigator for the Superior Court in Malheur County. I subsequently became a Community Corrections Officer. In 1986 I moved to Washington State, where I served as a Community Corrections Specialist, Training Specialist and Risk Assessment Specialist until 2006, when I was forced to end my employment for medical reasons. In Washington, I served on the Benton-Franklin Substance Abuse Board and the Spokane County Domestic Violence Coalition.
I am currently a volunteer for the Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service. My hobbies and interests include throwing pottery on the wheel, and taking acting and writing classes. I am an active grandmother, and I take care of my four year old grandson two days a week.
WHY I'M A DELEGATE FOR OBAMA:
| TOP 5 Reasons I Like Obama | - End the war in Iraq
- Redirect our energy policy
- Address climate change
- Preserve natural resources
- Provide universal health care
| | I would like to be an Obama delegate. At the local caucuses, I was elected as a delegate. I was unable to follow up and run for a position as a state delegate, but I would like the become an at-large delegate to help represent my community at the national convention. I believe Barack Obama is the best hope for the free world. His wisdom and insight surpass his age. He believes in peace and freedom, in equal opportunity, preservation of the planet, respect for all life and all people. His willingness to talk to everyone, including our enemies gives me hope for the future of our nation and the whole world. I was a voice for peace in the 60's, and I am a voice for peace now. I have studied Obama's platforms, and while I don't claim to understand everything in all of the topic areas, I find his platform positions to be reasoned and even inspiring. For too long, our country has been directed by the interests of profit-making alone. I believe Barack Obama will restore the American values of decency and fairness, redistribute our national budget to the needs of our people, and reclaim our reputation as a leader in world peace.
