| Hello, my name is Stewart Henderson! I want to be an at-large National Delegate, because I know I can make a difference for Barack! Read my personal statement (click here). | ||

| Short Biography: I am a husband (my wife is a local family therapist) and father of two great sons, one at college in Vermont and one a junior at Olympia High School. My wife Kathy and I met in the Peace Corps in West Africa (Mauritania). When the boys were little, we lived in Maryland, just outside Washington, DC. We were finally able to move to Washington State in 1999, and feel like we have come home to the place we wished we'd been born in. We have found our paradise on Earth, and intend to stay here for good. For work, I run a company called Third Way Consulting. We provide leadership development and management consulting services to help organizations achieve better results. Most of our my clients are government agencies and non-profits, primarily in the areas of the environment, education, and health care. I love my job. I get to help good people who are making a difference in the world become more effective at what they do -- and enjoy their work better, too. I've been doing consulting, training, and conflict resolution for over 25 years. Politically, I have been campaigning and fighting for progressive causes since I ran my first right-in campaign to become precinct delegate when I was 18. After coming back from the Peace Corps, I worked for the Mondale-Ferraro campaign (the best way I could figure out to spend full-time working to get Ronald Reagan out of office). I've worked on every presidential campaign since then. I was an organizer for Ralph Nader in the '80s. I served 7 years as a City Councilman in the town of Hyattsville, Maryland, and ran an unsuccessful campaign for the state legislature (learned a lot on that one). I've worked hard for Obama, here in the caucuses, and on the phone to other states. My son and I went down to Texas for the last week of that race -- we did our part to make sure Obama got all those caucus delegates. One of my biggest contributions to the Obama campaign so far was to make our County Convention an exciting, engaging event (instead of the boring-at-best, infuriating-at-worst meetings they usually are). It took weeks of work, planning, getting people to consider trying new things, writing a new kind of platform, getting a video made of all kinds of citizens (including the Governor) reading the platform, then a lot of last-minute parliamentary procedure, but we delivered a fun event that got people MORE ENERGIZED for the campaign. Obama was our inspiration for the platform. It was clear, to the point, from the heart, focused on the values we all share. And PEOPLE LOVED IT! The standing ovation went on and on. (You can link to the video below.) | |
I want to be a delegate to the national convention for one reason and one reason only: I want to do everything in my power to see that this man gets elected. If it was just the usual show, I wouldn't want to go. But I have worked in the trenches on campaigns for 30 years, and I want to be there, bringing everything I know and have learned, to make sure Barack walks out of that convention a winner. That accomplished, with my background in conflict resolution, and my deep respect for Bill and Hillary, I also believe I can play a part in pulling our party back together so we can all win in November. |
| Check out the video we made of the Thurston County Democratic Party platform (on the left). (Don't be scared by the weird picture!! It gets WAY better!) Here's the shorter, 6-minute version: (lower right). I co-chaired the committee that drafted this platform, and put together the video. It really helped energize and engage the delegates at the county convention. We got input from hundreds of people, and tried to feed back to them what we heard were their underlying values and major concerns. Their applause throughout and standing ovation at the end told us we did a good job. Obama was our inspiration for involving so many people, and for speaking clearly and simply and from the heart. |
