Studley Delegate Profile
| Hello, my name is Diane Studley | ||
| | ||
| Short Biography: I was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1947. My father was a highly decorated soldier from the 101st Airborne Division. My mother was a stay-at-home mom. I was the first in my family to graduate from college and I left for the Pacific Northwest with my husband and new-born daughter in 1971. We fell in love with the landscape and the accepting attitude of the people – a great place to raise kids with our second one being born in 1972. We live on a small farm in Mount Vernon. My husband, Mark, is a physician. I have devoted most of my time to working in the non-profit world, particularly in arts education. I coordinated the Mount Vernon School District Artists-in-Residence program for 14 years and am considered by the school district as a “key communicator”. I was an advocate for Advanced Placement classes and helped initiate the program at Mount Vernon High School where I served as National Honor Society advisor for four years. I was on the Board of Directors of The Lincoln Theatre Center Foundation from 1984-2003 serving as treasurer for most of those years. I was Chairman of the Lincoln’s Capital Campaign from 2000-04 which raised over $2 million to preserve this historic theatre. My first delegate experience at the Legislative District level was in 1972 when I was for the anti-war McGovern candidate, when the “old guard” was behind Henry “Scoop” Jackson. I have remained politically active on the local level since that time serving as Treasurer for several School Board campaigns, a 40th LD Campaign (1994) and a Skagit County Commissioner (1996) campaign. I have also worked on numerous school levies and bonds and most recently on the Skagit Valley Hospital bond. For the Obama Campaign I have done caucus related calling, national primary calling, and worked at several events. My daughter Alison is the Executive Director of Skagit Fisheries Enhancement group. She and her husband, Drew Fleshman, have one son and another child due in July. My son, Matthew, is a physician in Bellingham. He and his wife, Holly, have a daughter and a son. I am at a point in my life where I feel I can devote much of my time to politics - and creating a hopeful future for my grandchildren! | |
WHY I'M A DELEGATE FOR OBAMA:
| I want to turn the page for a brighter future. My 3 grandchildren have rekindled my interest in national politics and Barack Obama has rekindled my activism. I am drawn toward a strong leader with integrity who can implement change for the good of country. I am impressed with Barack Obama’s straight talk, sincerity and intelligent ideas. I have been an effective community activist in government, schools, and the arts since 1972. When I see a problem I aggressively try to fix it. I feel it is my duty to use my experience and community contacts to change the direction America is headed. I am using the high tech tools of the internet to efficiently join the campaign nationwide. My neighbors in my precinct were overwhelmingly behind an Obama nomination and I will persist to achieve that goal. After the National Convention, I will bring home my newly acquired skills to help elect our entire Democratic ticket. |
